General Terms


Psychologist:  provider who obtained a doctoral degree (PhD) in clinical psychology and who assists patients with  thoughts, feelings, behaviors, relationships and events via various talk therapies and behavioral therapies.  In South Carolina, psychologists do not prescribe medications.  Dr. Maierle is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, SC#883.  

Psychiatrist: provider who obtained a medical degree and specialized in treating patients with emotional/behavioral needs.  Psychiatrists can prescribe medications to assist you in managing your mood and psychological symptoms.  Dr. Maierle collaborates with local psychiatrists at your request.  

Mindfulness: bringing one's complete attention to the present experience on a moment to moment basis

Meditation: refers to a broad variety of practices (much like the term sports) which promote relaxation, increase energy and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity and forgiveness
